Loanshark runner jailed for harassing AMK family with raw pork

The family had moved into the Ang Mo Kio flat in June 2011. Barely two months later, they woke up to find pieces of raw pork laid on their doorstep. The door had also been vandalised with black paint and loanshark graffiti was scrawled on the wall of the staircase landing.

Soh Yong Hwee, 23, had carried out the harassment despite noticing surveillance cameras at the staircase landings. It was only a matter of time after that and he was arrested in his Hougang home on Dec 16, 2011.

The unemployed man pleaded guilty on Monday to four counts of working for unlicensed moneylenders. He was sentenced to jail for two years and three months, and nine strokes of the cane. In addition, he was fined $30,000. The court heard that in April 2011, Soh went to work for two loansharks as he was unable to repay his loans.

His duties included harassing homes and also checking on the harassment done by other runners. He would also report on the location of closed circuit television cameras at targeted locations.
