F1 Night Race to make its way to Bishan

Bishan East residents will get a piece of the Singapore F1 night race right in their neighbourhood this year.

Night karting, with lights from the Marina Bay race circuit, is set to dazzle the streets in Bishan as the constituency enjoys racing under the stars.

High-end Tony karts will whizz around the 300-metre street track, complete with a pit garage area and a grandstand. 6,000 people are expected to to witness the adrenalin-packed action.

Bishan Motorsports Group chairman Jason Tan said: "We are heavily subsidising the karting event for our residents at S$12 for Bishan East residents. For students and senior citizens in the Bishan Toa Payoh GRC, it will be S$10 regardless whether it's day or night."

Thirty youths from lower income families will even have their rides paid for entirely by sponsors, in an effort to promote the sports and unearth talent.

The three-day event, which will start from March 9 to 11, includes a series of NERF shootout challenges.

No effort is being spared to give the event a professional feel and even the tickets look similar to the Singapore F1 race.

Costing some S$60,000 to put together, more of such activities could be organised closer to the grand prix.

The track is located along Bishan St 13 just outside the Bishan Circle Line MRT Station exit. According to the organizers, the road will be closed for 72 hours, the longest such closure for an event of this nature in the heartlands.
