Although armed with standard police gear of a revolver, a T-baton and handcuffs, the men stood out in their casual gear. Said Sergeant Seah, 24: 'When we first approached them, they found it funny because we were not in full uniform.'
The two officers from Yishun North Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) were among 10 policemen who took part in a trial of the police's new front-line policing model called the Community Policing System (Cops). The trial was held between August 2010 and January last year.
What netizens say:
EASIER ON MEN IN BLUE
"I remember when I was young, I saw police officers in full uniform on bicycle patrolling... It's a good idea. It's easier for them to patrol in areas which cars can't access. And easier to chase a suspect than on foot with full gear." - Rye Han
EQUIPMENT MUST CHANGE
"I like this idea. But they need to somehow make the equipment they carry smaller, or the multitasking type. How will they run carrying so much on them?" - Victor Ang
BIKERS TO BENEFIT TOO?
"Hopefully the roads will be more cyclist-friendly after this." - Jeemee Goh
