Blue Ribbon initiative aims to make food centres smoke-free

By the end of next year, about 22 out of the 110 food centres islandwide might be smoke-free.

This is the target set by the Health Promotion Board, even as they recognised 10 such eateries which have already embarked on the path of having a smoke-free environment.

At the Gek Poh Ville Community Club at Jurong West on Sunday, Minister of State for Health Dr Amy Khor launched the Blue Ribbon initiative and emphasised the importance of sending a clear message that smoke-free living is the 'default lifestyle'.

'A bottom-up approach engaging ordinary Singaporeans to step forward and promote tobacco-free living is one of the ways to build such smoke-free environments,' she added.
