UCL q/finals: Real halted, Chelsea floored in first leg

Real Madrid were on course for a seventh successive victory in the competition when Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 28th minute, yet CSKA had other ideas to preserve their unbeaten record against Spanish opponents.

Pontus Wernbloom, making his CSKA debut having joined from AZ Alkmaar in January, prodded in an equaliser three minutes into added time to cancel out Ronaldo's first-half strike for a 1-1 final score.

SSC Napoli will head into their round of 16 second leg well placed after coming from behind to complete a rousing 3-1 win against Chelsea FC. Victory was no less than the Serie A side deserved as, urged on by deafening home support, Napoli made all the running.

Ezequiel Lavezzi was the architect, cancelling out Juan Mata's 27th-minute strike with his first UEFA Champions League goal and after Edinson Cavani's effort on the stroke of half-time edged the Partenopei in front, the Argentinian resumed centre stage with his second of the night.
