Singapore has a shortage of bus drivers

Unless there are new bus drivers, Singapore will have a problem of putting more buses on the roads.

The comment came from Mr Gerard Ee, Chairman of the Public Transport Council (PTC).

Currently about 30 per cent of the 1,900 bus drivers employed by SMRT are from Malaysia or China.

An SMRT spokesman said, "As Singaporeans become more qualified, it has become increasingly difficult to attract them to become service leaders."
