Police van flips over after accident

The police van skidded and flipped over and over again, before coming to a stop on its side on the pavement.

The accident happened at about midnight on Tuesday, at the junction of Paya Lebar Road and Geylang East Central.

The impact of the crash so stunned the cabby and his passenger that they sat frozen in their vehicle for a while but they soon came to their senses and went over to help the two officers in the van.

"When I moved near to them, they told me to go back and take care of my taxi," said ComfortDelGro cabby Boo Boon Chye .

Mr Boo said that he had just picked up the passenger from Paya Lebar and was driving along Paya Lebar Road in the direction of the Pan Island Expressway at about 11.50pm.

He then came to a stop at the junction of Paya Lebar Road and Geylang East Central. The accident happened just as he had moved off after stopping at the traffic lights. He slammed hard on the brakes to try and prevent the crash, but couldn't do so.

No one was injured.

Investigations into the accident are still ongoing.
