Body falls out of ambulance onto busy road

A freak incident involving an ambulance in Chennai caused a commotion after a body it was ferrying slipped out of the vehicle and landed on a busy road.

The body of an unidentified man in his 30s had earlier been fished out of the Mangal river near Nolambur in the district.

In the incident at about 10.30am on Wednesday, the ambulance, which was heading towards the local hospital, had stopped at the Nagar traffic light junction on Ambattur Estate Bus Terminus Road.

When the light turned green, the driver stepped on the accelerator, flinging open the vehicle's rear door and causing the body to fall onto the road.

The ambulance then sped off only to return some 20 minutes later to collect the body.
