A woman was arrested for DUI (drunk driving) this morning after driving the wrong way on Interstate 5 for nearly 18 miles, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill.
Troopers were first dispatched to Tumwater (Washington State), where the woman was reportedly sitting in her car in the middle of an intersection. Minutes later, 911 calls started pouring in about a motorist driving the wrong way on I-5, Gill said.
Troopers had to subsequently chase after her in the northbound lanes, with lights and sirens, Gill added, however the woman did not stop until her white sedan struck a line of spike strips placed in her path by troopers.
The 60-year-old Olympia woman reached speeds of more than 100 miles an hour while troopers and police chased her along the parallel lanes. As a result, a section of the freeway was also shut down to avoid any mishap. Eventually, there were no crashes, and no one was hurt.
