SMRT has announced increased train frequencies of 2 to 3 minutes on the North-South and East-West lines during peak hours in the new year.
Following the disruptions on Dec 15 and 17 last year, 13 trains were found to be damaged and taken off service, resulting in waits of 3.75 minutes to 5 minutes between trains. SMRT announced today that 12 of the damaged trains have been repaired.
As a result, train frequency will be increased to 2.1 - 2.5 minutes during morning peak hours from 7 am to 9 am, and 2.5 - 3 minutes during evening peak hours from 5 pm to 7.30 pm.
SMRT also said that the remaining damaged train will be repaired when spare parts become available.
