Travel agencies expect their tour groups to the Johor Premium Outlets, about half an hour's drive from the Tuas Checkpoint, to be booked out by January next year, with Singaporeans forming the majority of their customers.

Travel agencies like Chan Brothers and CTC Travel in Singapore are offering shopping day tours that include dinner. They say Singaporeans are attracted to the outlet because it brings international brands from the US and Europe closer to home.

"In Singapore... it's much more expensive as compared to an outlet shop...I think (in Johor Premium Outlets) there are much more varieties than in Singapore....(Also) in Singapore, I think some of the things like bags are limited," said one shopper.

"It's quite convenient. We took the first bus from JB," said another shopper.

And, there are plans to enhance accessibility from Singapore to the shopping complex with a direct shuttle from the Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station. This is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
