Sunday Morning Mayhem

Confusion, frustration for commuters on Sunday morning
Confusion greeted commuters at Ang Mo Kio MRT station on Sunday morning.

At 5.30am, about 20 people had gathered at the station, but they did not know where to take the shuttle bus services. There were no signboards put up to tell them where to go.

It was only about 5.40am that staff gave instructions for the growing crowd outside the station to head to two bus stops adjacent to and opposite the station along Ang Mo Kio Ave 8.

However, as of 6am, none of the shuttle buses headed south had arrived yet, and commuters going to work were visibly frustrated.

The northbound bus services from the station on the other hand have been running since about 5.45am.

Delays for commuters as morning routines affected
At about 5.30am this morning, shuttle bus drivers at Pasir Ris MRT station deliberated with their supervisors for several minutes to confirm their routes. One driver was heard saying to another that he was not sure where he was going.

While most shuttle buses arrived within 5 to 15 minutes, commuters at City Hall MRT station headed for Pasir Ris waited over half an hour for their bus.

'My boss is going to fire me,' joked coffeeshop attendant Chua Muang Chuan, 57, nervously.

He was late for work despite having set off from home two hours in advance, anticipating a delay due to the line closures.

'It's just too long to wait but I don't have a choice. How else could I get to my workplace?' he added.
