This year's edition of the popular annual race takes place this Sunday, and speaking at a pre-race press conference on Friday, the Singapore Sports Council (SSC), organisers of the event, revealed they will submit an application to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for the event to be "gold label" certified.
"Applying for the IAAF Gold Label certification for the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore underscores our ambition to become Asia's pinnacle race," said SSC chief executive Lim Teck Yin at the Conrad Centennial Hotel on Friday.
"With this certification, it will definitely help to boost our efforts in continuing to build on the race's strong following locally and in the region."
