Over the next few days, they called Madam Lin and Shen's father, but both claimed they did not have such a large sum of money and begged the caller to reduce the ransom amount.
Shortly after the call, Madam Lin headed to Jalan Wong Ah Fook in Johor Baru, an area where her husband frequented where she then received another call and was taken aback when the caller asked her in Hokkien what she was doing in the area.
She managed to speak to her husband, who reportedly told her: "You will get me into trouble if you are at Jalan Wong Ah Fook."
About 40 minutes later, a third man speaking Malay told her she had four days to raise the money. In this last call on Nov 29, the kidnappers finally lowered the ransom amount to RM400,000 (about S$164,000).
During this call, Madam Lin and Mr Shen's father said they could not longer hear the younger Shen's voice in the background. This made them believe Shen could have already been killed by the kidnappers.
His body, clad in a red shirt and blue jeans, was found dumped near a fish farm at Pasir Gudang in Johor Bahru last Thursday with his head wrapped in four layers of plastic with his hands and feet bound.![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
