Slower train speeds will stay for now: SMRT

The speed limit for MRT trains on sections of the North-South and East-West lines will stay reduced at 40kmh for now, as SMRT continues its checks on the system following two major train disruptions two weeks ago.



Providing an update yesterday, SMRT said that this will add two minutes to normal end-to-end travel time of about 60 minutes. The affected stretches are between the Bishan and Marina Bay stations on the North-South Line, and between the Bugis and Tiong Bahru stations on the East-West Line.

"The extra two minutes is similar to the longer travel time on rainy days when trains travel at slower speeds at aboveground stations," said SMRT.
