NSF stabbed... over SMS spat between girls

A full-time national serviceman was slashed in his face and stabbed in his back during a 'settlement talk' that started over an SMS argument between two girls, aged 13 and 16.

NSF Lai Yu Wei, 23, had accompanied his 13-year-old girlfriend to Pioneer Mall in Jurong West on May 16 to confront 16-year-old Ong Cai Yin, whom she had a text argument with.

Lai and his girlfriend were accompanied by four others while the 16-year-old girl had asked her friend, 22-year-old Ng Chee Wei, who was a gang member, to go along with her.

Chee Wei later invited Tan Yi Tan, 21; Tan Lee Wei, 21 and Lee Bing Ru, 18, to join him, and they agreed.

When they approached the rival group at Pioneer Mall at about 7.30pm that day, the four yelled out and demanded to know their gang affiliation.

When one of them mentioned the name of a secret society, Lee Wei kicked him and along with his friends, attacked NSF Lai and two of his friends.

Bing Ru, who had brought a knife with 11cm blade from his home, slashed Lai on the left side of his face and stabbed him a few times in the back.

Even after Lai fell to the ground, Lee Wei and his friends continued to kick and punch him.

The injured Lai was subsequently taken to National University Hospital for treatment.
