Man, 73, arrested for scratching 16 taxis at RWS

In early April 2011, two taxi drivers reported to the police that their taxis, which were parked at the basement carpark of Resort World Sentosa (RWS), had been scratched by an unknown person or persons.

Subsequent checks with RWS revealed that there were other similar but unreported cases.

Further investigation with the help of RWS security personnel revealed the identity of the suspect.

Police said the suspect used various sharp objects to scratch the paintwork of the taxis out of frustration on multiple occasions.

The total repair cost to the damaged vehicles is valued at approximately $8,600.

A 73-year-old man was subsequently arrested for using sharp objects to scratch and damage 16 taxis at the carpark and will be charged in Court on Dec 8 for his acts of mischief.

If convicted, he is liable for imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years, fined, or both.
