HTA reassures trainees that their well-being is top priority

Following the recent diarrhoea outbreak at the Home Team Academy, precautionary measures and alternative meal arrangements had been made while investigations are ongoing.

All operations from the Home Team Academy’s (HTA) mess hall have been suspended while the Ministry of Health and National Environment Agency officials conduct investigations.

HTA directed the caterer, M/S Select Catering, to clean and disinfect the mess hall thoroughly.

Alternative meal arrangements have also been made for the trainees.

This follows the diarrhoea cases where 110 HTA trainees became ill and were suspected to be suffering from food poisoning since the end of November 2011.

HTA Chief Executive Mr Derek Pereira said: “We deeply regret this incident and would like to re-assure all trainees, and their families, that their well-being is our utmost concern.”

He added: “We will continue to put in our best efforts to maintain a high standard in food preparation hygiene in HTA and welcome feedback for improvements.”

Here is HTA Chief Executive Mr Derek Pereira’s full letter on the incident:
