Girl steals from mum, friends steal from her

In August, 14 year old Yvonne found the key to the drawer where her mother kept her jewellery.

She grabbed some of the valuables in the drawer and took them to a pawnshop with a friend.

The friend, who is 21, then used his identity card to pawn the items. Yvonne said that she had wanted money to spend freely, but had not planned any purchases.

"I sold the jewellery and received about $10,000," she shared, adding that she went to Orchard Road and used about $3,000 to buy, among other items, a Gucci bag, a Louis Vuitton wallet and a Chanel perfume.

Yvonne also said that she told her friends about how she had sold her mother's jewellery at a pawnshop for cash, but did not think much of it then.

About two days later, just after midnight on Aug 20, her friends asked her to buy them some drinks and they went out as a group at about 1am. After paying about $30 for beer, she revealed that one of her friends told her that he wanted to speak to her.

She then went to a nearby void deck at about 3am with the two secondary school students who restrained her and robbed her of the $7,000.

The girl said: "One of them put his arm around my neck, while the other snatched the money from my pocket. They were very rough and one side of my shorts was half pulled off... I decided to report the matter to the police."

The police officer convinced her that she needed to tell her mother about the entire incident.

She added: "When my mum found out, she didn't get angry or cry. She just nagged at me and asked me why I did that."

Days after making the police report, Yvonne said that one of the boys who robbed her went to her home and returned her $6,200. And she understood that the remaining $800 has been handed to the police.

The family have chosen to keep the matter from Yvonne's father as he has a hot temper.

Yvonne's older sister, who will attend ITE next year, said the two of them seldom go out nowadays and that her younger sister, whom she called rebellious, had since turned over a new leaf.

The skinny girl, whose eyes welled up with tears at times during the interview, said that she hopes to buy her mother new jewellery when she starts working.

She stressed: "It depends on how much I earn, but I may buy her something every two weeks or every one month."
