Five Youths In Potong Pasir Violent Attack Arrested

Police have arrested five youths aged between 15 and 17 years who are believed to be involved in a case of rioting armed with deadly weapon that occurred on 1 December 2011.

On 1 December 2011 at about 4pm, Police received a call regarding an injured person at Blk 137 Potong Pasir Ave 3. Two 17-year-old male subjects were found with injuries at the said location. One of them was subsequently conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for medical attention while the other subject suffering from facial injuries was treated at the location.

Investigations revealed that the two victims are believed to have been assaulted by a group of youths at Blk 122 Potong Pasir Ave 3, where the assailants had fled the scene thereafter.

Officers from Tanglin Police Division immediately sprung into action and conducted extensive ground enquiries to establish the identities of the assailants. Simultaneous ambushes and operations were then mounted.

Within six-hours from the time the case was first reported, five suspects believed to be involved in the case were swiftly rounded-up from various locations island-wide.

Investigations are underway to establish the whereabouts of other possible accomplices.

The five suspects will be charged in Court on 3 December 2011 for the offence of Rioting Armed with a Deadly Weapon, an offence punishable under Section 148 read with Section 149 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

If convicted, the suspects shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years and shall also be liable to caning. A Court Order will be sought for all the suspects to be remanded for further investigations.
