Singapore Radio Awards 2011

"FUN" was the keyword at the Singapore Radio Awards 2011 last night, thanks to the show's hosts, Justin Ang and Vernon A, better known as "The Muttons" from MediaCorp Radio's 987FM station.

They were in fine form, keeping the show from becoming stale with gag after gag. At one point they dressed up like aunties a la popular presenter Dennis Chew's Aunty Lucy alter ego. "Why are we dressed like this? Because when you dress up like aunties, you get more endorsement (deals)", they quipped.

Not surprisingly, Vernon A picked up two awards. The first was for Most Popular Radio Personality (987FM), pipping his on-air partner, Ang, to the post.

"He'd like to thank his mother, father, girlfriend, blah blah blah ... but most of all, he'd like to thank his partner," said Ang, who received the award on his behalf - after locking Vernon in a closet. The pair also received the Best Radio Show award for their programme, Muttons On The Move.

Along with Vernon, Oli 96.8FM DJ Vimala also picked up two awards - for Most Popular Radio Personality (Oli 96.8FM) and for Most Creative Radio Trailer (Tamil/Hindi).

For the first time, the awards show was broadcast live on MediaCorp Channel 5. In previous years, only a limited number of fans could go to the awards via tickets, while last year, fans could watch the show via a webcast.
