For close to three years, the runway had been closed and some of Seletar's aviation activities was forced to shift to Changi Airport temporarily.
These activities will progressively be relocated back to Seletar Airport, announced Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Changi Airport Group (CAG) in a joint statement today.
Measuring 1.84 kilometres - close to 250 metres more than its original length - the extended runway allows Seletar Airport to support larger jet operations, as well as heavier take-off loads.
In line with the government's efforts to develop the area into the next aviation hub, there will be a new control tower and fire station, significant increase in the number of parking stands, additional taxiways, upgraded aircraft parking aprons, as well as an instrument landing system when upgrading is fully completed in 2014.
