More than 10 people in Singapore claimed that a confinement lady had cheated and stolen abalone from them.
At least four of them have lodged police reports against the 55-year-old Malaysian.
A 33-year-old teacher said she had paid the confinement lady S$500 as a deposit but she did not turn up for work.
The teacher said she got to know the confinement lady through a website but later found out that many people had complained about her service.
She said the confinement lady called her in August and said she was not happy that the teacher had complained about her on the website.
"She wanted to terminate our agreement and said she would return the deposit.
"However, until today, there is no news," said the teacher who lodged the report on Aug 28.
A father of twins said the confinement lady asked for a S$1,200 (RM2,800) deposit but coughed into the babies' faces and did not look after them when they cried at night.
The confinement lady was fired six days later and he believes she did it deliberately so that she could keep the money.
When contacted, the confinement lady admitted that she still had S$1,600 from four families which she had not yet returned.
"I dare not go back to Singapore," said the woman, who admitted that she was questioned at an immigration checkpoint two months ago and knew that police were investigating her.
She claimed to have eight years' experience as a confinement lady and currently works in Sarawak.
She also denied stealing any abalone.
