The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) said although famine was officially declared a few weeks ago in Somalia, not much assistance has reached the affected people because of hazardous conditions in the region made worse by the continued armed conflict in the country.

Donations at all mosques will open from Friday till September 15.

Funds collected under the Rahmatan Lil Alamin (Blessings to all) Foundation will be channelled to victims through the Singapore Red Cross.

Ways for the public to make donations to the MUIS fund:

1. Donation at all 69 mosques from September 9-15. The boxes will be marked "Singapore Muslim Community's Contribution to the Humanitarian Relief Efforts in Somalia".

2. Cash donations can also be made at the MUIS building at Singapore Islamic Hub.

3. Cheque donations should be made payable to "MUIS" with words "Humanitarian Relief Efforts in Somalia" written on the back.

4. Online donations can also be made via the Muis website at
www.muis.gov.sg.
