Trapped for 3 weeks in container with no food and water

Yesterday, the police said investigations indicated that Bangladeshi Din Islam and another man - a Mr Alamgir, who were believed to be port workers from Bangladesh, were trapped inside a container by accident while they were taking a rest in it.

It is understood that Mr Din told police that he and the other man, who was in his 30s - were co-workers at the Chittagong Port in south-eastern Bangladesh.

Around March 21, the two had completed their cleaning chores at the port when they popped into the empty container to take a nap.

When they woke up, they found themselves in darkness, and the door of the container was shut. They shouted and banged on the walls of the container to attract attention. But with their container buried amid the thousands of steel containers in the port, no one was alerted to their nightmare.

On Sunday night, workers at the Pasir Panjang Terminal discovered Mr Din and the dead body of Mr Alamgir's in the container, which had been shipped from Bangladesh two weeks earlier.

Starved, exhausted and dehydrated - Bangladeshi Din Islam was yesterday recuperating at Alexandra Hospital as the details of his horrifying three weeks trapped inside a container emerged.
