Police arrest man for suspected theft near MHA HQ

On March 28 at about 7pm, a 32-year-old woman was walking along Akyab Road, off Balestier Road, near the headquarters of the Singapore Police Force and the Ministry of Home Affairs, when a man riding a stolen motorcycle suddenly snatched her handbag and sped off.

Officers from Tanglin Police Division arrested the 44-year-old man at his home on Monday.

Police said he had stolen the motorcycle.

The motorcycle and the victim's handbag were recovered and the suspect is believed to be involved in other similar cases.

He will be charged on Wednesday with snatch theft and theft of a motor vehicle. If convicted, he can be jailed up to seven years and caned.
