Mum and young girl fall to their deaths

SINGAPORE - A mother and her young daughter fell to their deaths from the bedroom window of their 12-storey HDB executive flat in Bukit Batok early yesterday morning.

Marketing manager Philip Devlin, a permanent resident from Australia, who lives on the fifth floor, said he heard two loud thuds, and when he looked out of his window, was shocked to see the pair lying below on the ground floor.

Peiqin, who was in pink long-sleeved pajamas, was lying face down. Madam He was wearing a blue shirt and floral shorts.

Mr Devlin, 41, and his wife Faye went to comfort the girl, who was still gasping for breath.

He told The Straits Times: "'She was struggling to breathe. She had obviously injured herself badly." He teared as he recounted what happened.

They knelt beside her and comforted her, telling her to hold on as the ambulance and doctor were on their way. But she stopped breathing by the time paramedics arrived ten minutes later.

He Xuejing was believed to have fallen her death with Peiqin after her husband and 16-year-old daughter left the house for work and school.

When the husband and another male friend arrived at the scene at about 10am to identify the bodies, he could be seen collapsing in tears when he saw the bodies lying on the floor.

Police have classified the case as unnatural death and are carrying out investigations.
