AN INCREASING number of Singaporeans are taking their own annual leave and paying their own way to do volunteer work in third-world countries year on year.
They teach English, provide medical services, build homes and help conserve the environment. An international study showed such numbers grew seven times between 2003 and 2007 in the latest figures available.
