A police statement says residents of the down of La Democracia, or Democracy in English, about 205 miles (330 kilometers) west of the capital, caught the men, beat them, hung them and then torched their gasoline-sprayed bodies.

The statement said residents killed the men, including two brothers, on Wednesday.

Police said some 3,000 people were involved in the lynching, erecting barricades to the entrance to the town to keep authorities from intervening.
