Fast cars zipping around NTU's roads pose danger

PEOPLE who take shiny new cars like Lamborghinis, Maseratis and Ferraris out of the showroom may be keen to check out these supercars' speed and agility. And relatively empty winding roads with slopes aplenty fit the bill.

But where in Singapore can one find such spots?

The answer, it seems, is the network of roads in Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Staff and students there report seeing, in the past six years, cars of these three makes sporting the tell-tale blue number plates - used for vehicles being test-driven - zipping around their campus. At other times, they see overall-clad drivers at the wheel, who might well be vehicle mechanics.

NTU's shuttle bus drivers, who used to see these cars every day, say they typically enter from Pioneer Road North, go down Nanyang Crescent before making an exit at Jalan Bahar.

The stretch is near halls of residence 11, 12 and 14, among others.

'No one test-drives any car, let alone a supercar, below 40kmh. This poses a danger to pedestrians, especially at blind spots.'
