SINGAPORE : The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has made its second largest seizure of methamphetamine, more commonly known as "Ice", this year.

CNB said it arrested a 28-year-old man at about 11.30 am on Saturday just as he was leaving a flat in the Pasir Ris Drive 4 area.

Officers seized from him eight packets, or 511 grammes of "Ice" .

CNB said the estimated street value of the seizure is S$143,000.

Officers also seized other drug paraphernalia from the man's bag, such as two digital weighing scales and empty plastic packets.

CNB said it had been monitoring the man closely during the operation, and that he had been "actively distributing 'Ice' to local abusers".

Acting Deputy Director of CNB, Marvin Sim, said methamphetamine was the main drug of abuse among new abusers arrested last year.

CNB said the arrested man will be investigated for drug trafficking under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

He may face the death penalty if convicted.
