British tourist saves toddler in four-storey fall

20-year-old Helena Myles and her one-year-old daughter, Jah-Nea who live in Longwood near Orlando, were staying at the Econo Lodge in adjoining rooms with friends from North Carolina.

Myles said that she left her daughter in the care of her friends, who said they didn't notice Jah-Nea slip out of their room when shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday, all three women were alerted by the sound of screaming.

At around the same time, Helen Beard, 44, a tourist from Worksop, England, was at the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites pool on the Orlando tourist strip when she saw a small child dangling from the balcony.

Beard said she ran to a spot directly under Jah-Nea Myles and watched as the toddler fell, striking the third-floor balcony on her way down. She then caught Jah-Nea and broke her fall before the child slipped from her arms and hit the ground.

Eventually, paramedics took Jah-Nea to the hospital.

"She's perfectly fine. Not a scratch on her body," her mother said.
