At a meeting in Bangkok on Sunday, the new president of the region's football associations, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, said the federation will form a committee to look into the proposal.
Welcoming the AFF move, FIFA executive council member Worawi Makudi said ASEAN will have the necessary infrastructure in place to host the championship in 20 years time.
However, Mr Makudi, who is also president of the Thai Football Association, said that with Qatar hosting the World Cup in 2022, the 2030 date may be a little too early for the tournament to come to South East Asia.
The idea to make a bid for the World Cup was first mooted by ASEAN Foreign Ministers in January.
Malaysia was then tasked to draft a proposal and submit a status report for the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta next month.
