The incident happened Monday morning at about 8.55am, at Tampines St 42, Block 446.

The boy's mother had left the house with her elder daughter to buy breakfast, before sending her off to swimming lessons. It was believed that she had also planned to go to the market after that.

The boy's grandfather also headed out of the house at around 8am to for coffee.

As the boy was still asleep, the family did not wake him and left him at home.

The boy, Wang Jin Qian, subsequently fell out of the window of his family home's kitchen. He is believed to have climbed up onto a laundry basket and a box to reach the slightly ajar window.
