At 12.30am on Nov 10 last year, Firdaus Yusri, 20, was at Jalan Minyak in the Chin Siew Road area with younger brothers Naim, 19 and Ruduan, 17, and friend Md Zulfikar Sibni. When stopped by police officer Khirul Ishan Jaafar, 25, and asked what he was carrying, Firdaus said in Malay that he had a bomb in his bag.

Alarmed, the officer asked again and received the same reply. Reinforcements were summoned and a hand-held explosives trace detector revealed nothing sinister in the bag. It contained only four 'AAA' batteries, a bunch of keys, a Singapore Armed Forces security pass for Jurong Camp, a pack of cigarettes, and a library book on religion.
Firdaus Yusri was fined $2,000 on Wednesday for lying to a police officer that there was a bomb in his haversack.
