Mustafa most hit by shoplifters, followed by...

SINGAPORE - The retail outlet which had the most shoplifting cases last year was Mustafa Centre, the police announced yesterday as they called on businesses to take "greater responsibility and ownership" of the issue of shoplifting.

There were 570 cases at the 24-hour shopping centre, followed by 102 cases at Giant Jurong East Street 21. Third on the list was Giant Tampines North Drive 2, with 92 cases.

Other outlets most hit by shoplifters last year were FairPrice Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 (86 cases), Sheng Siong Chin Swee Road (40 cases), John Little Sales Events at Singapore Expo (37 cases), Prime Supermarket Woodlands Avenue 6 (35 cases), Cold Storage Yishun Avenue 2 (34 cases), Cold Storage Marine Parade (34 cases) and Cold Storage Orchard (32 cases).

A person convicted of shoplifting can be jailed for up to seven years and fined.
