Video: McDonald’s robbery in which K-9 was killed

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A robbery at a McDonalds in Florida last September resulted in the death of a Fort Myers PD K-9. Footage of that robbery was released by the State Attorney’s Office this week.

In surveillance video of the armed robbery, a McDonald’s employee deliberately left a back door open while he took out the garbage. That’s when the two armed robbers entered the restaurant and pointed their guns in the store manager’s face.

Outside, a customer who was waiting in the drive through line called the police.

One of the robbers then pointed the gun at the manager and told him to open the safe.

Police arrived shortly after, at which point one of the men ran away on foot. Officers set loose several K-9s.

A German Shepherd named Rosco, who had been with the department since 2009, was shot and killed by the suspect.

Officers returned fire, killing the shooter moments later.

The other suspect took off in a black Volkswagen Jetta. After a pursuit, his car was found rolled over in a ditch.

Rest In Peace, Rosco...
