Since mid-February 2011, several cases of break-ins and attempted break-ins were reported at Lengkok Bahru housing estate. The items stolen included laptops and mobile phones amounting to about $4,500 in total. In some of the cases, the suspect was believed to have ‘fished’ out the items from the units via unsecured windows along the common corridor.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect. On 24 February 2011 at about 12.50 am , the suspect was traced to a unit at Blk 59 Lengkok Bahru and placed under arrest. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is believed to be involved in at least two cases of housebreaking at Lengkok Bahru housing estate.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 25 February 2011 for the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 14 years.
