After the vehicle crashed at the intersection of 85th Avenue and San Leandro Street, a second person in the car, the driver, was captured after a short foot chase, police spokesman Capt. Ersie Joyner said.

Joyner said the pursuit began after officers responded to a call about shots fired on the 7600 block of Lockwood Avenue at 4:12 p.m. Residents told police the suspects sped away in a maroon Infiniti.

A patrol unit leaving the Eastmont Mall substation spotted the vehicle. Police pursued the car on a high-speed chase on Interstate 880 before exiting near the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

After the Infiniti sped through a stop sign on San Leandro Street at 85th Avenue it struck a green Buick, ending the chase.

Police said the car's passenger emerged with two guns and did not respond to officer's commands.

"He did not comply," Joyner said. "He was shot and killed."
