Divorce suit: Socialite shuts down her shoe stores

Already in the midst of a high-profile divorce, the 36-year-old socialite Jamie Chua, who was the first to bring the Manolo Blahnik shoe store to Southeast Asia, has had her two shoe outlets closed.

The Straits Times reported that she appointed provisional liquidation last Friday, citing potential cash-flow problems for the firm, Cloud 9 Lifestyle.

The company runs the two shoe boutiques - one is located at Hilton Hotel, the other at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.

Jamie is the sole director of Cloud 9, which is a subsidiary of D'League that owns the exclusive franchise for Manolo Blahnik shoes in Singapore.

Her soon-to-be ex-husband, Nurdian Cuaca, 46, is said to own a substantial chunk of D'League.

The provisional liquidators' role is to protect assets under the control of Cloud 9, pending the oucome of a winding-up application.

Jamie and her Indonesian businessman husband are currently locked in a divorce suit that was filed in February 2010.

Last month, her lawyers managed to block her husband's move to unfreeze about $93 million of his assets.

You can read more about that here.

Mr Cuaca's lawyers are appealing against the freeze order.

Jamie is also seeking a monthly maintenance payment of $450,000 from her husband.

She said she had no choice but to liquidate as Mr Cuaca owns 70 per cent of D'League, which she claims to be part of their matrimonial assets.
