The owner of a satay business is believed to be under investigation in connection with the case of a van being abandoned outside the Singapore Islamic Hub, reported Berita Harian yesterday.
Quoting unnamed sources, the Malay-language newspaper identified the man as Mr Mohamed Raffi Bashir Ahmed, 49, who is known for his satay business, Jalilah's Sate Solo, which started in Sembawang.
He and his wife are also owners of Royal Halal, a holding company of several subsidiaries involved in the halal food industry.
The businessman is believed to have been referred to the Institute of Mental Health for further investigations, the paper said.
The man is alleged to have driven the white van to the headquarters of the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore shortly before 5pm on Friday, parked the vehicle and fled on foot.
There were red scrawls on the vehicle, including the word "mati" ("die" in Malay).
According to Berita Harian, at around 6.30pm the same day, Mr Mohamed Raffi had gone to the Singapore Press Holdings building, which is near the Islamic Hub, demanding to see one of its reporters.
According to the reporter in question, Mr Mohamed Raffi insisted that Berita Harian interview him about "hot political news". The businessman was described as not acting like himself, the newspaper said.
