One-hundred-and-thirty-nine Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) personnel were awarded the Overseas Service Medal on Monday afternoon, in recognition of their contributions to overseas missions.
Among the recipients were 137 personnel who had been deployed to Afghanistan as part of Singapore's contribution to the multinational stabilisation and reconstruction efforts there.
Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean said although SAF's contributions were not large, they are in niche areas where they can provide expertise.
Over the decade, the SAF has deployed more than 2,300 servicemen, in international peace and security missions.
