SINGAPORE - A Frenchman who vandalised equipment at Changi Airport Terminal 1 blamed the BP oil spill and the Icelandic volcanic ash for his outburst.
Oil rig supervisor Antonie Mathieu Rongeot, 38, was going home to Paris from Indonesia and drank some alcohol, while waiting for his connecting flight to Paris last Friday.
He tried to open a locked door but failed to do so. He then punched the fire alarm manual call point on the door, damaging it.
An aviation security officer called the police and he was arrested and subsequently charged.
Yesterday, he pleaded guilty and was fined $5,000 for committing mischief. Rongeot was also ordered to pay Changi Airport Group $1,860, for the repair of the fire alarm call point. MORE
