Balancing car ownership - A question of supply and demand

The by-product of Singaporeans' drive for material success is evident on the roads: Cars, lots of them. But as one of the smallest countries in the world, filled with an ever-growing population, the obsession with owning a car has to go.

"I think we need greater recognition that our principal ambition is to ensure that we continue to live in this beautiful city where the sky is blue and the air is clean, and not like some cities in the world where you come out and the sky is perpetually grey, infected by pollution from lots of vehicles trapped in a huge traffic jam everyday," said Transport Minister Raymond Lim.
