Floods hit S'pore again

THE start of the weekend was ruined for Singaporeans living in low-lying parts of the country, when they woke up surrounded by rainwater.

They found themselves ankle-deep, knee-deep and even waist-deep in it, the result of rain that began pouring down at dawn, and persisted for hours until it flooded homes, shops and basement carparks.

Saturday's storm battered the central and eastern parts of Singapore with nearly double the force of last month's two flash floods.

Singapore Civil Defence Force officers were busy freeing up motorists and passengers - 59 of them - stuck in cars and buses. MORE

New malls for Orchard

SINGAPORE - Orchard Road will be adding another new face to its shopping belt.

A retail, hotel and office development will soon come up at the sites of the former Specialists' Centre and Hotel Phoenix, as well as Orchard Emerald mall. MORE

Jol agrees Fulham deal

Martin Jol replaces Jaque Santini who left only after a few  months.

Martin Jol last night agreed a deal to take over as Fulham manager.

Jol will fly out to join the Fulham squad on their 10-day tour of Sweden next week. MORE

Chelsea launch record £50m bid for Torres
