Cyber-crime strikes 70% of Internet users in S'pore

A new study, released by Symantec consumer division Norton, revealed that 70 per cent of Internet users in Singapore have fallen victim to cyber-crimes including computer viruses, online credit card fraud and identity theft. And, 71 per cent do not expect cyber-criminals to be brought to justice.

Solving cyber-crimes can be highly frustrating. According to the report, four in 10 of the victims in Singapore have never fully resolved cyber-crime.

"Singapore has strict laws that prevent us from being used as a base for cyber-criminals. But we do have a very connected....very affluent population, which then makes us a target for cyber-criminals. And, these criminals could operate outside of Singapore." MORE

Four arrested for alleged Facebook scams
SINGAPORE: Four people connected to a series of Facebook scams have been arrested, including a 31-year-old man who is believed to be the mastermind.

Between June and July this year, police received several complaints that a Facebook user, by the name of "Nicole Tay", allegedly cheated at least 16 men of more than S$10,000.

The suspect was believed to have used a fictitious Facebook account, claiming that "she" could not afford to pay rent and was in urgent need of money.

After receiving payment, "Nicole" would disappear.
