The Manchester United Class of 92 sought to roll back the years on Thursday night. With only David Beckham missing from the list, the crowd in Lancashire were treated to an array of big names.
They may have full trophy cabinets, but age may not be on their side as Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers – who were joined by a host of other former Manchester United players on the night – were roundly beaten by non-league Salford City at the AJ Bell stadium.
Giggs netted a lovely dinked penalty for the Class of 92, but Salford City – the club they bought and hope to take to the Football League – proved far too strong, scoring five times to the pleasure of the home crowd.
The Manchester United legends were beaten 5-1 on Thursday by Salford City – the club they bought in the hope of turning them into a Football League side.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) today (Aug 7) said local travel agency Ho Wah Travel will no longer hold a valid Travel Agent (TA) licence.
The company’s licence was revoked in agreement with the Travel Agents Act (Chapter 334), as it had ceased to continue the business of a travel agent and commenced the process of winding up, STB said in its statement.
Affected consumers should contact Ho Wah regarding the status of their bookings or refunds, before approaching their insurance providers for assistance should the company fail to provide relevant service delivery or refund.
For consumers who are not covered by travel insurance, they can seek the help of the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) or the Small Claims Tribunal (SCT), STB added.
Consumers are also reminded to take measures to protect themselves, including paying by installments if travel bookings are made ahead of time and purchasing travel insurance that includes travel agent insolvency upon any payment.
For an updated list of licensed travel agents in Singapore, consumers can visit the Travel Related Users’ System (TRUST) website: https://trust.yoursingapore.com/trust/DirectorCtrl.

A four-year-old boy was hurt after a glass door at Westgate mall in Jurong East reportedly fell on top of him.
The glass door — about 3m high — had detached and fell on top of the boy just before 6pm today (Aug 7). This was just outside of NTUC’s My First Skool childcare centre and a Fitness First gym, leading to the outdoor area on Level 5.
The boy’s entire body was pinned down by the door, and that he was lying facedown. The boy’s right cheek appeared to be bruised. There were also traces of blood on the ground.
“Because the glass door is tempered glass, it shattered within,” said Mr Paul, a passerby. He says two staff members from the nearby Westgate Kids Club brought a first aid kit to tend to the boy, and a doctor from a clinic one level down came up to assist as well.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirms it received a call on the incident at 6.05pm, and says the boy suffered a cut to the back of his head and reported having neck pains.
He was sent conscious to the National University Hospital.

Two religious organisations — the Singapore Buddhist Lodge and the Taoist Federation of Singapore — have made a donation of an undisclosed amount to help Syrian refugees in Turkey.
They are the latest non-Muslim religious organisations to step forward, after Abbot Venerable Sik Kwang Sheng from Bright Hill Temple pledged support for the Aid to Syrian Refugees in Turkey (ASRIT) initiative last month.
ASRIT is a joint initiative by two Muslim organisations, SimplyIslam and the Muslim Expatriates Network.
Mr Tan Thiam Lye, chairman of the Taoist Federation of Singapore, said both the Taoist and Buddhist organisations enjoy a “close working relationship” with their Muslim counterparts.
So far, ASRIT has raised more than S$420,000 from donations collected in mosques, during roadshows and from online contributors. The money raised will go towards building a school for refugee children and buying food packs, school and healthcare supplies for the Syrian refugees, who number almost a million.
Meanwhile, ASRIT will be sending more than 10 volunteers to the Syrian refugee camps in Turkey in September in its first overseas mission.

Three men sentenced for separate sexual offences against minors

http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/three-men-sentenced-sexual-offences-against-minors
Three men who committed sexual offences against minors, including a serial molester, were sentenced in the State Courts yesterday.
In the first case, Lee Kia Kit, 48, was sentenced to seven years’ preventive detention and one stroke of the cane for outraging the modesty of two girls, aged 13 and 15, when they were on their way to school in March.
He kissed the younger girl on the cheek and groped the other.
The odd-job worker, who had a third charge of molesting a 13-year-old boy taken into consideration, has had three previous convictions for sexual offences since 2011, prompting Deputy Public Prosecutor Paul Wong to argue that imprisonment had “no rehabilitative or deterrent effect” on him.
His previous offences were committed against victims aged between nine and 45.

Separately, Teo Koon Tian, 57, was sentenced to 20 months in jail for touching a 10-year-old boy inappropriately.
Teo committed the offence on July 18 on a boy he spotted at a void deck, where he was drinking beer. Teo approached the boy, who was playing with his mobile phone, and told him he was “very cute and handsome”. He started rubbing the boy’s thigh despite his protests.
Noting that the offence was committed in broad daylight, Deputy Public Prosecutor Joshua Lim argued that Teo “has to be told that he has to pay for his crimes against innocent, vulnerable, defenceless young boys”.

In the case of Abdul Rahim Abubakar, 30, he received 10 months’ imprisonment for asking a minor to perform fellatio on him, which took place in February 2012. He had obtained the contact number of a 14-year-old girl from an acquaintance and offered to pay S$60 in return for sexual services.
When the girl turned up, he gave her S$40 and the minor performed consensual fellatio on him. But before she left, Rahim asked for S$20 back, assuring that he would give her the money on another day.
Pressing for a 12-month jail term, Deputy Public Prosecutor Allison Phua noted the significant age gap between Rahim and the victim.

Four Singaporeans are among the 18 people being investigated by Malaysian police after a video of them frolicking naked on a Penang beach went viral.
Malaysian daily newspaper The Star yesterday reported how the nudists had allegedly held a "Penang Nude Sports Games 2014" event on May 30.
They filmed themselves painting each other's bodies, dancing and rolling over one another.
According to the 5.5 minute video, the event was organised by Ms Chew Tok Hwa, a Malaysian. The footage ends with a promise to hold a similar event next year.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the authorities had no knowledge of the nudist event, adding that the state did not condone such behaviour.
The nudists are being investigated under Section 509 of Malaysia's penal code, which entails committing a gesture intended to insult the modesty of a person. The prescribed punishment is a jail term of up to five years, a fine or both, said Malaysian police.
According to lawyer Tan Hee Joek, the Malaysian authorities can request the assistance of their local counterparts here to extradite alleged Singaporean offenders who may be punishable for six months or more under Malaysian law, he said.

Glad that chivalry is not dead in Singapore

I was in a long snaking taxi queue at Ngee Ann City last Saturday afternoon when the taxi coordinator noticed a pregnant woman standing in line.
Without blinking an eye, she asked the 50 or so people in front of the woman if they could allow her to come to the front of the queue.
Without hesitation, they agreed and even automatically moved aside to let her and an elderly relative pass.
I am glad that chivalry is not dead in Singapore and, when required, people here do step up to the plate.
