Chevrolet upbeat on its first MPV

CHEVROLET is confident that its first MPV model, the Orlando, will gain market share with its pricing and features despite the shrinking market for this segment of vehicles.

The Chevrolet Orlando is a compact multi-purpose vehicle with seven seats. The brand new model is based on the Cruze platform but it is longer, wider and has an extended wheelbase of 2,760 mm and a bigger 1.8-litre engine.

At 4,652 mm long and 1,836 mm high, the Orlando's dimensions mean that it will compete with cars like the Volkswagen Touran, Citroën C4 Grand Picasso, Toyota Wish and Honda Stream.

Priced at $129,999 with COE, the Orlando 1.8 LT comes standard with 17-inch rims, a sunroof, cruise control, leather seats, rain sensors, solar film and a Navtrak navigation & entertainment system.

Chevrolet designed the Orlando as a crossover with some Continental flair and SUV-like features such as the high belt line and muscular wheel arches.

The interior is also striking for an MPV, with a wraparound dashboard and funky centre console. The three rows of theatre-style seats are also practical because those in the rear still get to enjoy good forward visibility.
