Road safety message disguised as parking ticket effective in preventing drink-driving

STOMPer imadaddy praises the Singapore Road Safety Council for coming up with a unique way to remind people not to drive after drinking -- having the reminders shaped like parking tickets.

imadaddy writes in an email to STOMP (Jan 04):

"On Christmas eve, after celebrating at a pub, my colleagues and I decided to call it a night.

"We had all been drinking a fair amount, but one of my colleagues wanted to drive home.

"He claimed that he was perfectly sober and even to drive a lady friend home.

"However, the first thing we heard when we left the pub were cries of dismay from him.

"He had gotten a parking summon despite having placed parking coupons!

"Upon further examination, we realised that it was a 'don’t drink and drive' message disguised as an actual fine.

"Both he and the lady friend changed their minds and decided to cab home.

"I can't believe this campaign is overlooked by the media.

" Kudos to the Singapore Road Safety Council for this very cool way of preventing drink-driving; it sure got the point across to us that night!"
