Bomoh molests girl to 'remove ghost'

SHE believed him when he said that her daughter had been possessed.

And she was so convinced of his special healing powers that she allowed him to take the 13-year-old girl into the toilet to check her body and “remove the ghost”.

But the bomoh (Malay for medicine man), 55, molested the girl in the toilet of her home.

When the teen told her mother what had happened, the latter did not believe her. She even asked her elderly parents over to her flat to be cured.

It was the girl’s aunt who eventually took the girl to make a police report.

After a five-day trial, Al-Habib Sheih Haji Ismail Al Mahberoh, was jailed 10months for molesting the Secondary 2 student. The prosecution is appealing against his sentence.

In his grounds of decision released last week, District Judge Toh Yong Cheong noted that Al-Habib committed the offence by deception and trickery.

The girl, now 15, cannot be named under the law.

Singapore's population would triple if...

A Gallup study shows that Singapore is the one country in "developed Asia" that highly-educated and young people would want to settle in, should they have a choice of any country to migrate to.

Singapore's overall population would triple if everyone who wanted to move here were allowed to. The total population here was 5.08 million as of end-June. It would also see its population of well-educated people quadruple and the number of young people increase six-fold.

27 more molest charges for Heartbeat Molester

A MAN dubbed the 'Heartbeat Molester' is said to have molested 28 underage girls since 1999.

Last week, Martin Tan Chye Guan, 47, faced one charge of molesting an 11-year-old girl at an HDB staircase landing in August.

Investigations now revealed he had committed 27 other offences.

All his victims were between eight and 12 years old.

Tan's modus operandi was to ask his victims to feel his heartbeat as a pretext or prelude to molesting them.

He would them take their hands to stroke his chest or his genitals.

On other occasions he would touch the private parts of his young victims.

Tan was offered bail of $50,000 but family members were unable to raise the money.

His case will be next heard on Dec 13.

The team needed a win to advance to the knock-out rounds as one of the four best third-placed teams in the six groups. Singapore had held defending champions Qatar to a goal-less stalemate on Sunday but lost 0-2 to Kuwait in their second game on Tuesday.

But the Indians proved too strong, hammering four goals past Singapore custodian Siddiq Durimi, who was standing in for the suspended Izwan Mahbud.

Qatar topped the group on seven points after beating Kuwait 2-0. The Kuwaitis are second on six while India advanced to the next stage in third place with three points. Singapore have only one point.
